Category Archives: PLANNING APPLICATION : PROPOSED SAND AND GRAVEL QUARRY

As you may be aware a new Planning Application for a quarry covering all the land between Barton and Clifton and a giant processing plant on the top of Mill Hill has been received.
THIS AFFECTS THE WHOLE VILLAGE
If Planning Permission is given:
Sand and gravel quarrying will last for up to 12 years.
Extraction will take place 11 hours a day and 6 days a week mainly in the summer months with the inevitable dust and noise.
The County Council is likely to approve future extensions which would surround the whole village right round to Thrumpton.
If you own your house, the price will fall and may not be saleable.
Our countryside will be changed forever. Brandshill Ancient Woodland, Attenborough Nature Reserve and Holme Pit birds and wildlife will be impacted.
The peace and quiet of the whole valley used by walkers and horse riders permanently damaged.
29,000 extra lorry movements per year clogging local roads.

Village Heritage Group

It has been suggested that a Village Heritage Group should be formed to record the natural and cultural environment – landscape, historic sites and built environments plus biodiversity, past and continuing cultural practices, knowledge and living experiences.  Everyone is invited to an open meeting in the Village Hall on Thursday 13th November at 7.30 pm to discuss.  The Parish Council is very happy to sponsor this first meeting but it is expected that the village will take ownership.

If you cannot attend but would like to get involved talk to any parish councillor.
